Glossary · from the DESK dictionary
Support
A price level where buying interest has historically been strong enough to slow further declines.
In plain words
A kind of "floor" where the price has repeatedly been held up in the past.
In more detail
Support arises from the confluence of supply and demand at certain price levels, often reinforced by round numbers, prior lows, or moving averages. Broken support often turns into new resistance.
Example
A stock repeatedly falls back to $100 without breaking below it — this level is considered support.
What it means for traders
A fundamental technical-analysis concept for placing entries, exits, and stop-losses.
Common pitfalls
Support levels are no guarantee — they can be broken at any time.
