Bitcoin Halving

A programmed event in which the reward for Bitcoin miners is cut in half every 210,000 blocks (~4 years).

In plain words

At the halving, the number of newly created bitcoin per block drops by half — slowing the growth of the total supply until the 21 million cap is reached.

What it means for traders

One of the most closely watched recurring events in the crypto market, often associated with significant price volatility.

Common pitfalls

Historical price reactions following past halvings are no guarantee of future effects.
